Union soldier; of Salisbury, N.H.; in 1861, at age 23, he mustered into the 4th New Hampshire Infantry, Company I; after his first tour of duty, he re-enlisted in Feb. 1864; 1864, wounded at Petersburg, Va.; discharged 1865; after the war, he lived in the National Soldier's Home in Virginia. The main line of the Charleston and Savannah Railroad Company, which began operations in 1861, ran between Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia, with service to other locations south and west of Charleston.
